Please introduce yourself

As this website is growing, and new users are joining, I would love to be able to know more about you. I have contacted a few of you by e-mail to start a communication, but my goal is to create a safe place to be able to convey information that will be helpful to others and reaffirm what we are doing to help our children.

So far, I have identified key themes in my interviews with mothers of children with Asperger Syndrome that I am sure will benefit all of who are mothering and educating children with different brains. So far, themes that I have identified include: Networks and Support, Maternal Stress, Educational Interventions, Behavioral Interventions, Spiritual Stories, and Parental Relationships, and Sibling Interactions.

I am going to be finishing my dissertation this summer, and I look forward to your feedback on my research.

hi

hello , i'm a 30 year old mom. I have two small kids wich I don't know if they will developp any autistic problemes at all ( I sure hope not for their sake ) but I am on the other side of the problem. My dad was finally diagnose as being an Aspie not long ago even though we all knew he was different, being raised with him was deffinetly difficult but I think that makes me capable of seeing this whole thing from a very different point of view. I mimicked a lot of his odd behaviors so my doctors is having a real hard time disserning if I only mimicked him or if he passed it on to me in my genes. I have a defficit desorder and I am borderline also so you can imagine how hard it is to me to live a normal life. The probleme is, I don't want to pass my own problemes to my kids and I find it really hard not to retract in my bubble when I'm anxious. Life has a single mom is full of stressfull events and I do tend to be overly anxious easily. Can you help me ?

Help

I am 25 years old and I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 5 and visual and auditory learning disorder. I am seeking help on how I can get some help with schooling, I dropped out of college because I had a hard time getting the work done. I've been on Ritalin but that was about 10 years ago.

I have to younger brothers (2) that both have ADHD and Asperger Syndrome (not sure if ADHD is applied when they got diagnosed with Asperger). I have tried to call the place that they got diagnosed at but they do not return my calls. I have insurance through my job.

I need some advise on what to do.

Help!!

Hi, my 8 year old son has recently been diagnosed with Aspergers. The day to day life as Aspergers parents know is a hard one. I am always questionning myself and my judgement and do not really know how to cope with tantrums, bad behaviour and swearing. I would love to chat to people who know how this feels and perhaps could swap ideas in dealing with certain situations.

I know how you feel!!

Hi Ninnin123, my name is Michelle and have a daughter, who is 9, that was diagnosed with Asperger's. I have always known there was something, but finally received a diagnose a couple months ago. She is currently in the 4th grade and struggling for the first time!

I would love to become a support for you, as well as you being a support for me. I feel alone, since I am a single mom. I left when my daughter was just 2 days old. Anyhow, I have my parents who we have lived with since I left my marriage. They are from the "old school" and don't think there is anything wrong, except she is spoiled. I know she is spoiled, but as the specialists say, a spoiled child will not present the same behaviors. Auditory is her biggest sensory issue.

My email is: michellerobitaille@hotmail.com. Please feel free to contact me anytime! I am searching for extra help and ideas, as well.

Does your son miss many days of school? My daughter has headaches and stomachaches, which is contributed to the anxiety. She has no friends and is very sad because of it. I have always been in her life more than most moms. I don't date and don't go out. I am here for her and work from home, so I can drop her off at school and pick her up. We have a wonderful relationship, which I think helps so much. I have always been honest with my daughter and have always explained things until she really gets it. She is literal, which I find, mostly, very humorous. She does, too, once I explain. She is amazing at the puns and her passion is writing. Words and comprehension (spelling and reading) are her highlights. She learned to read in just 9 days.

Anyhow, please contact me and we can exchange ideas and support.

I look so forward to talking with you soon! Together, we can change our children's lives!

hello

my name is doug, wife's name is laura. our 6 y/o son is currently going through all the tests/evals associated with his poor social skills & behavior. not to mention a host of other issues mentioned in aspergers syndrome. problems w/ our son were evident as early as 18 mos. when he was old enough to be in a day care setting. school age now and only seems to be worsening. numerous doctors, specialists, and medication combos have followed. not to mention diagnoses of ADHD & ODD. a counselor recently mentioned aspergers as a possibility. the more research we do the more it seems evident as such. my wife and i have been very frustrated to say the least, and find it more difficult to cope with all the negative reports coming home from school. any and all help/advice would be appreciated thank you.

Hello

Hi, it does make you feel better to know that we are not alone in this situation. Life is very frustrating at the best of times but its knowing where to go and who to talk to for support. I understand totally about the negative reports from school, it is heartbreaking sometimes because you dont know (or i dont know) how to deal with this. I take away privileges but this sometimes does not work, I then feel guilty as its not his fault he behaves this way. How do you maintain discipline and not feel guilty??

Love to chat further.
